Polish Adviser Rebukes US for Bypassing Allies Before Iran Strike
“A minimum of respect would require consultation on these matters in advance, not when problems arise,” Marcin Przydacz told reports.
He specifically referred to recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran, arguing that Washington should have engaged NATO partners beforehand, particularly if it later expected their backing.
These comments highlight an unusual moment of friction between Poland’s traditionally pro-American president and the US administration. Przydacz stressed that Washington ought to have shown “a minimum of respect” by notifying allies ahead of time, especially considering subsequent expectations for NATO support in protecting shipping lanes and assisting US operations in the Middle East.
President Nawrocki has long been recognized as one of the US administration’s staunchest European supporters, frequently calling Trump a “true friend of Poland,” advocating for increased European defense funding, and emphasizing the United States as Poland’s principal partner.
Yet, these remarks also reveal growing differences between the presidential office and Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s cabinet regarding Poland’s stance on the escalating Iran conflict.
At first, Nawrocki adopted a more supportive tone following the US-Israeli strikes, noting that Poland had been informed ahead of time “thanks to the channels we maintain with our allies and coalition partners.” He later defended Poland’s strong relationship with Washington while warning that Iran posed a threat to the global order.
In contrast, Tusk’s administration has expressed greater caution. Reports indicate that the Foreign Minister questioned whether Iran represented a direct threat justifying US military action, while the Defense Minister cautioned that a prolonged Middle East conflict could disrupt arms deliveries to Ukraine and drive up energy costs, potentially benefiting Russia.
