Turkey’s Turksat positions itself as international player in satellite services

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s only satellite operator, Turksat, is positioning itself to emerge as an international player in satellite services and related technologies by 2026, according to official statements.

The company plans to broaden its reach through multiple initiatives, including extending Türkiye’s e-Government infrastructure to neighboring countries and expanding into new digital service areas.

Turksat’s chief executive, Ahmet Hamdi Atalay, said the company concentrated this year on internal restructuring and large-scale infrastructure upgrades to support diversification beyond its traditional operations.

“We started working on an in-flight Internet connection (IFC) project, which will position us as a regional and then a global player,” he said. “We signed an IFC project deal with (Türkiye’s low-cost domestic airline) AJet, in which we developed our own proprietary software, which we will be rolling out next year on AJet aircraft in the first quarter.”

Atalay noted that the satellite-based internet service being introduced for AJet was developed in cooperation with TCI Aircraft Interiors, a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines.

“Previously, there was no internet service in the ‘low-cost, regional’ airline segment, so ours will be a first,” he said. “We established an infrastructure to provide internet connectivity at higher speeds than other airlines—many value-added services can be provided through this service.”

The initiative is expected to mark a significant step for Turksat, both in expanding its technological portfolio and in strengthening its ambitions to compete beyond the regional level in the global satellite and digital services market.
