Ukraine labels Florida meeting as "productive"

(MENAFN) Ukraine has described a series of recent discussions with US and European counterparts as highly effective, marking another step in ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the nearly four-year conflict with Russia, according to a joint statement released Sunday.

The statement said Ukrainian officials spent three days in Florida holding consultations with Western partners focused on advancing a negotiated settlement.

"The Ukrainian delegation held a series of productive and constructive meetings with American and European partners," the statement shared by US special envoy Steve Witkoff on US social media company X read.

According to the statement, talks between US and Ukrainian representatives centered on four core documents. These included further refinement of a 20-point roadmap, coordination on multilateral and US-led security guarantee arrangements for Ukraine, and progress on an economic and prosperity plan aimed at supporting the country’s postwar recovery.

"Particular attention was given to discussing timelines and the sequencing of next steps," the statement said.

Ukraine reaffirmed its commitment to reaching a fair and lasting resolution to the conflict, emphasizing shared goals that include halting the violence, securing reliable security guarantees, and laying the groundwork for long-term stability and economic growth.

"Peace must be not only a cessation of hostilities, but also a dignified foundation for a stable future," it said.

The statement also noted that Ukraine "highly values" continued US leadership and support, as well as close coordination with European partners as discussions move into their next phase.

The Florida meetings are part of a broader sequence of diplomatic engagements aimed at shaping a comprehensive peace framework. As stated by reports, US envoys have recently held talks with Ukrainian and European officials in Germany, both last weekend and earlier this week.

Earlier efforts included meetings in Geneva in November, where US and Ukrainian officials drafted what was described as a refined peace framework. That draft was later discussed in Moscow on Dec. 2 during talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Subsequent follow-up discussions between US and Ukrainian delegations took place in Florida and were described by both sides as constructive. Meanwhile, Russian Presidential Envoy Kirill Dmitriev also traveled to Miami for meetings with US officials, saying that negotiations are proceeding "constructively."
