Putin labels ties with Russia, Tajikistan as ‘reliable allies’
“Indeed, we are constantly working on security and defense, including the difficult situation developing in the region. We are reliable allies. Russia values them greatly and will certainly fulfill all our obligations as an ally,” Putin said during his meeting with Rahmon in Dushanbe, according to the Kremlin.
Putin noted that Russian-Tajik relations are developing “very positively” across multiple fields, particularly in trade and economics. Bilateral trade, he said, increased by more than 17% in the first seven months of this year. He added that the visit would include the adoption of a “substantive joint statement” outlining future cooperation in various areas.
Rahmon welcomed Putin’s visit, praising the “positive momentum” in bilateral relations and highlighting active political dialogue and growing collaboration in trade, culture, and humanitarian projects. He also underlined close cooperation between Moscow and Dushanbe on security issues and within international organizations.
Putin arrived in Tajikistan on Wednesday evening for a three-day trip. During his visit, he is set to attend the second Russia–Central Asia summit and the Heads of State Council meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
